NFL® Punt, Pass and Kick at Encampment!

On Monday, early in the morning through fall and winter, all of the Yeti family gathered in our cave, and we would sit down to watch NFL® games on our handmade television set after playing catch outside.  My older brother was a Bears fan, but my dad always cheered for who he thought the hometown boys were, the Bengals.  I never had the heart to tell Dad that Cincinnati was not in Nepal (where you find actual Bengal Tigers) but half a world away in Ohio (where the state animal is the Airstream Trailer).  Not that anyone would ever really want to go to Ohio, since, well, it’s too much like Ohio.

I digress.  But, I always wanted to be a football player.  I practiced punting, passing, and kicking whenever I could, but I still was stuck playing defensive lineman.

Now, my lucky day is here!  I can now participate in the NFL® Punt, Pass and Kick competition at Expedition Encampment in April!

One of the nice things about Punt, Pass, and Kick is that the name says it all.  How far (and accurately) can you pass?

How far (and, if you’re Cincinnati, how often) can you punt?

And, how far can you place kick?  See, it's all in the name.

I look forward to punting, passing, and kicking at Expedition Encampment.  Who knows?  Several NFL® quarterbacks started out in Punt, Pass and Kick program.  Maybe I will be the first Yeti from Tibet in the NFL®.

As long as the Bengals don't draft me.

2013 Quivira Council Pinewood Derby

This is a photo of my Dad when he was a member of the Boy Scouts.  Notice the family resemblance?

Encampment keeps getting better!  Next year, the Quivira Council Pinewood Derby will be at . . . Encampment on April 19-21, 2013 in Hutchinson at the Kansas State Fair Grounds!

Pinewood Derby is pretty exciting to me.  This year my car was super fast, and it looked neat.  This will be my second year entering, and I think that my dad has achieved a balance between mass, inertia, friction, and track length.  At least that’s what he says while polishing the wheels with 60,000 grit sandpaper.
Rumor also has it that we’ll have the world’s tallest Pinewood Derby.  I’m not sure how that works, unless we’d be starting from the top of Mt. Everest?

Registration Now Open, Plus Free Stuff

What a free T-shirt might look like, if it weren’t a drawing of a t-shirt.

Drumroll, please!  Registration for Expedition Encampment 2013 is now open!

And you can do it right now.  Since you’re on the internet reading this, you can go here and register right now.

This is a large improvement over how we do it in the YSH (Yeti Scouts of the Himalayas). It would require ice, chisels, and a 271 mile hike with a 23,000 foot elevation change.  You, on the other hand, can go right here and get registered now!  No hiking. No endless hours of chiseling the names on ice blocks. None of that!

The other benefit is that if you are among the first 250 registered, you will receive a free special edition t-Shirt!  I do not believe they come in Yeti sizes, but they do come in most human sizes.

Moving to Kansas

Whew!  It’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to post – when you’re moving all of your stuff from Tibet to Kansas, sometimes it’s hard to find a good place to get Wi-Fi, plus my keyboard is TINY.  It was a normal sized keyboard, but I’ve got these huge yeti fingers, so I had to order a custom yeti-sized keyboard.  Without it, I’d type like a yeti with a small keyboard.  Which, I think I’ve established, is quite slow.

It’s a longer walk than you might guess to get here to Kansas, but it’s worth it – I’ve been selected to be the mascot for Encampment 2013.  I’m not sure how they selected me, but yet the e-mail showed up and I’m certainly honored!  Encampment 2013 is going to happen on April 19-21, 2013 at the State Fairground in Hutchinson.  Okay, you’re asking why I’m talking about Encampment now, it’s more than a year away – well the answer is that when you’re planning a big event like this, you start to get excited.  Pretty soon you’ll be able to register!

My American cousin Sasquatch is pretty cool and has his own action figure, too!

The other thing that’s gotten me excited is that I’ve finally gotten my Bobcat Badge and my Tiger Badge!  You might think I’m a little old for that, but as mascot for Encampment, I’m going to try to work my way as far as I can through Scouting before Encampment starts.  They’ve given me special permission to go to Scout Camps and Cub Day Camps, too, so expect to see me this summer!

I don’t think I’d feel good about earning the Yeti Merit Badge – it’s a little too much like earning a Merit Badge for breathing.

Earning Merit Badges for My Sash

I'm so excited about the WATC Merit Badge College that is coming up. I've been working on the Snow Sports and Wilderness Survival merit badges for some time now. But, I keep losing my blue cards, and I have to start the merit badges all over again. My Yetimaster just shakes his head and hands me another blue card. I wonder what the world record is for the most times a Scout has had to restart the same merit badge.
